Hey, remember that time I interviewed Kansas?

I’ve picked up some more writing gigs in Austin and one of my first assignments was to interview Kansas. Yeah, Kansas. Believe me, it took ALL of my fortitude not to say, “All we are is dust in the wind, dude” in Keanu’s voice at some point during the interview.

But I am a consummate professional. So I did not. At least not during the interview.

At first I was all, “Job’s a job, folks,” and then I started listening to Kansas and I ended up getting super into Kansas, beyond “Carry On My Wayward Son” and “Dust in the Wind.” In fact, I am now so into Kansas that I’m going to see them at the Long Center when they play in Austin. Who knew 1970s prog rock was going to be my new thing?

You can read my interview with Kansas in this month’s online TODO Austin, or in actual paper form if you live in Austin and prefer, like, actual paper (weirdos).

If all of a sudden you’re into 70s prog rock too, you can also catch Kansas at the Long Center on August 20th.
